Car paint protection

Car paint protection is an effective method to protect your car from mechanical influences, stone impacts or scratches by using a paint protection film. Paint protection films are sometimes also referred to as stone guard films and, with their protective characteristics, form a kind of second skin that covers the vehicle body and protects the paint not only from small scratches, but also from most stone impacts to a certain extent. In order to achieve this mechanical robustness with a film that is mostly only 160-200 micrometers thick, certain types of film based on polyurethane are used.

Protect your car paint!

Due to their protective characteristics, polyurethane or PU films cannot be applied to all components on the vehicle right down to the last recess and corners. Although they are inherently flexible, they can only be stretched or deformed to a limited extent. Nevertheless, with this type of film you can wrap more than 80% of the painted surfaces on most vehicles and thus protect them well.

No other technical solution can protect vehicle paints so well against mechanical influences and also due to their high transparency paint protection films practically do not adversely affect the vehicle’s appearance. On the contrary, with certain paint colours, PU films can even increase the brilliance and depth of the colours so that the colours appear even more appealing.

Self-healing feature

Certain paint protection films have a special feature, a so-called self-healing surface. That means that slight scratches can disappear as if by magic just by exposure to the sun. The film surface repairs itself. This characteristic is usually provided by premium car paint protection films. In the case of slightly cheaper films without this special feature, scratches can possibly be repaired with a hot air blower.

Special advantages

In the case that the car paint protection film is badly damaged by severe scratches, there is a good chance that the vehicle paint underneath will remain intact. The film can be removed with professional tools and a manageable expenditure of time and the vehicle part can be re-wrapped to ensure excellent car paint protection.

Another pleasant side effect of paint protection films is that the surfaces, especially the surface of premium films, can be cleaned very easily. Regular street dirt and sedimentations do not adhere as well to paint protection films, so that dirt can often be cleaned perfectly with just water, a little soap and a simple rub with a sponge.

Avery Dennison offers an extensive range of paint protection films, with classic transparent versions, glossy or matt surfaces, with a self-healing surface effect or as a glossy black version for a supreme car paint protection.
